Johanna Mair Scholar and Educator in Service of Society

Welcome to my website

I am a social scientist who studies how organized efforts help to make progress on - prevent or solve - social problems, how organizations contribute to social problems, and how institutional arrangements facilitate or stifle economic, social and political progress.

My research often challenges and recasts exiting theory to make it relevant and useful.

My teaching challenges participants to reflect on their assumptions and sources of power, to lead change, and to address social problems.

My work supports policy makers to reflect deeply on the implications of policy decisions.

The Hertie School and the Global Innovation for Impact Lab at Stanford PACS are my academic homes. Stanford Social Innovation Review is an important voice that allows me to bridge scholarship and practice.
